What does natural mean?
The term natural is not regulated by the FDA.
While consumers look for natural products the varied uses of the
term has led to it really almost meaning nothing at all.
At Lavande de Bois we want our customers to know what they are purchasing; so we define the term natural as being in its natural state. When we state that a product is all natural we mean that none of the raw ingredients are manmade. When you shop our online store our handcrafted soaps are classified into two categories:
All natural, that is
the soap is entirely composed of natural ingredients, these soaps bear
the label "all natural handmade
soap
And
Mostly natural, that
is 99% natural. These soaps
bear the label “handcrafted soap”
While both types of soaps are made using natural raw ingredients
using the cold process method, the handcrafted soaps contain colorants,
ultramarines, oxides, and pigments which are naturally sourced.
Ultramarines and oxides in their natural state contain harmful
elements and are not approved for use in cosmetics by the FDA, so soap
and cosmetic makers use ultramarines and oxides that are made by man to
replicate those made by the earth.
The all natural handmade
soaps have natural colorants, usually herbs or clays.
Soaps with herbs tend to have more texture.
If you want a totally smooth
texture in your soap you will want to choose one that bears the label
handcrafted soap and has no
additional additives for exfoliation, like oatmeal for example.
We are committed to truth in labeling.
So all our products
are labeled to equip you with the information
you need to make an informed purchasing decision.
Both classes of soaps are produced in adherence to our
natural
goodness commitment, that is, we only use
essential oils to create wonderful uplifting aroma.
We only use vegetable oils in our soap base.
We add naturally good additives like honey, coconut milk, clays,
herbs, etc. to make each handmade soap unique in its aromatic, visual,
and sensual appeal.
Our body essential line is also created using all natural ingredients. We do not source synthetic ingredients for use in our body essential line. All our salt scrubs, body butters, hand salves, bath salts, and bath teas are made using 100% natural ingredients. We do use ROE and Vitamin E, natural preservatives, to extend the shelf life of some of these products.
